The Coordinating Board of OCEANS Network

The Coordinating Board of the OCEANS Network is a group of volunteer students and alumni of one of the exchange projects who coordinate the activities of the Network together with the Service Provider and in cooperation with the European Commission.

President: Jan-Peter Wettlaufer, Germany


Jan has a Diploma in Social Sciences and an international MA in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development and is now working in the field of regional development. He took part in an ERASMUS exchange in London (UK) and during his master he joined the ATLANTIS Exchange programme which led him to the Gent University (BEL), Wageningen University (NED) and University of Arkansas (USA)

Events Coordinator: Filippo Zinzani

 

Filippo took part in different exchange projects. Coming from the University of Bologna in Italy, he studied Nuclear Engineering bouncing between Gothenburg, Berkeley, and Philadelphia before having landed at Oxford University as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to study Financial Mathematics. He is now working as an algorithmic trader at Morgan Stanley in London.

Communication Coordinator: Manuela Capraro, Italy

Manuela holds a Bachelor's Degree in International and Diplomatic Sciences from the University of Bologna (Italy) and is an alumna of the Atlantis Exchange programme with University of Wisconsin, Madison (USA), where she studied Sociology of Human Resources Management. Besides gaining international experience studing in Romania, she has volunteered at national and international organisations for six years. She now works in Bologna as an international fair organiser.

Regional Coordinator Canada: Heather McKenzie

Heather McKenzie lives on Northern Vancouver Island working in a small logging town as a forest engineer. She graduated from UBC in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry; Forest Resource Management, International Specialization. Heather participated in TRANSFOR: the Transatlantic education for global sustainable forest sector development program in 2007 where she toured the forests of Germany, Sweden, Finland, and Wales. Heather is as passionate about forests as she is about global networking, so email her if you have any questions about either topics, or OCEANS Canada in general!

Regional Coordinator USA: Jessica Slattery Karich, USA

 

Jessica has a law degree from the University of St. Thomas, School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a bachelor's degree in Business Management and Communication from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and is currently studying International Relations and History at University of Tartu, Estonia, taking part in the Atlantis Exchange Programme in cooperation with West Virginia University (USA) and Collegium Civitas (Poland). During her undergraduate studies Jessica also spent time abroad at the University of Notre Dame, Australia and co-led a service trip to San Lucas, Guatemala during law school.

Regional Coordinator Australia: Siamak Teherani, Australia

 

Siamak graduated from Flinders University in International Studies and Business. As part of his degrees he participated in the EU-AU Global Citizens Exchange to Malmo Sweden for a semester and then a week long intensive programme in Utrecht, Netherlands. He also participated in an exchange to York University in Toronto for a year as part of his International Studies degree. In High School, he was part of an exchange to France and most recently he spent six month in Tianjin University China studying Chinese language and culture. He wants to work in an area that allows him to travel around the world and meet more amazing people.

Regional Coordinator South Korea: Jungyoon Han

 

Jungyoon (or Guni) has a passion for travel and discovering new culture and way of life. She is currently finalising her Bachelor of Arts in sociology and business administration at Korea University. She is alumna of EU-ICI (Korean – European Nexus on International Economy and Governance) programme with Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. She lived for a long time abroad, and has experience working at the South Korean Ministry of justice, consulting firm, mass media, and volunteered as a staff of many international events held in Korea.

Regional Coordinator European Union: Julia Rittershaus, Germany



Julia has a BA in Business Communication and is currently enrolled in the MSc Programme "International Energy Economics" at the University of Leipzig and Moscow State University of International Relations, Russia. Being an alumna of the TEP exchange programme she studied at North Island College on Vancouver Island (Canada).

Regional Coordinator Japan: Ryota Nii, Japan

 

Ryota is a PhD physics student at the Osaka University Graduate School of Science (Japan). He has participated in the EU-Japan exchange programme in Groningen University (the Netherlands). Ryota has been active with OCEANS almost since its inception.
