OCEANS at the General Assembly of EMA

At the end of June, Ben and Julia of the Coordinating Board followed an invitation to Hungary in order to participate in the General Assembly (GA) of the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA).

The event was hosted by the Central European University right in the centre of Hungary´s capitol Budapest. The GA can be compared to OCEANS´ Annual General Meeting and includes discussions about the structure and shape of the network, speeches as well as group meetings. Ben and Julia also got the chance to give a brief presentation about the OCEANS Network in front of the 170 participants of the assembly.

EMA is a lot bigger than OCEANS (more than 7000 members!) which is why they have a very different organisational structure than OCEANS. They have numerous so called Regional Chapters as well as functional teams such as Communications or Events. Since EMA is not only much bigger, but also already 5 years old, the OCEANS Network can still learn from EMA´s experience regarding e.g. working habits, content or internal structures.

During the two-day conference both EMA and OCEANS representatives could exchange ideas, share "best practices" and discuss future cooperation. The biggest ongoing joint project and event REALISE IT will take place in Brussels in the beginning of October.

On behalf of the network EMA´s newly elected president was invited to join our Annual General Meeting in September in New York City.
