OCEANS goes Midwest!

USA Coordinator, Jessica Slattery Karich gives OCEANS Presentations in the Midwest Region of the US!

In January and February this year, USA Coordinator Jessica Slattery Karich held presentations and networking events at three Universities hosting Atlantis Programs in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Nebraska. From her home state of Minnesota, each was just a car-ride away across the Great Plains and river valleys of the continental Midwest.

Jessica’s prezi-style OCEANS presentation made current and potential OCEANS members, as well as interested internationally oriented university community members, aware of the many benefits of educational exchange programs and OCEANS membership.
Specifically, she addressed the question: what can you do with the OCEANS Network? Her prezi used vivid illustrations, video, and personal examples to demonstrate that OCEANS allows you to build a network of international friends and colleagues, to take advantage of OCEANS’ online and offline events, meetings, and workshops to take your career and skills to the next level, and, most importantly, to make friends from all over the globe and have fun.

Jessica spread the word about OCEANS’ new Miles Program to participate and earn points toward attending offline networking events, like the Annual General Meeting this coming July 12-15 in Warsaw. Her presentations also showed attendees the real, tangible initiatives our members are undertaking as a result of the REALISE IT conference in collaboration with EMA, such as SmartTag, Unexus.org, and the Human[i]ties Conference.

As a result of these presentations and networking events, OCEANS has added several new members and increased participation in the OCEANS online community.
Jessica first presented at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri, which houses the EU-US Atlantis Program’s Policy Project on Homeland Security Education at the International Level. In Wisconsin, Jessica presented to the EU-US Atlantis Program’s Sports Medical Athletic Therapist International Exchange Program at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. In Nebraska, Jessica presented to the EU-US Atlantis Program’s Mobility Program in Global IT Management at the University of Nebraska - Omaha. At each University, representatives from the Office of International Programs were in attendance and provided substantial support for the presentations.

A special thank you to Prof. Don Wallace, Prof. Marc Gibson, and Dr. Deepak Khazanchi, the respective Project Directors for the above-mentioned EU-US Atlantis Programs, for their assistance in orchestrating the presentations and networking events.
The presentations were not only informative, but fun. Jessica concluded the networking events with a lively team-trivia competition for prizes.

Here’s what some of the participants had to say about Jessica’s presentation:
