Joint Event: Negotiation and Communication Seminar

On September 22nd, 2013 around 38 OCEANS and EMA members met in Brussels for a Negotiation and Communication seminar held by Mr. Holger Osterrieder, deputy ambassador of Germany in Mali.

During the seminar, negotiation strategies and skills were discussed and applied during several group session that included case studies. Moreover, a short CV training and an extensive job interview were held.

4th Annual General Meeting of OCEANS

On July 5th-6th, 2013 the 4th Annual General Meeting was held in Berlin, Germany at the Hertie School of Governance .


70 members including the OCEANS Coordinating Board met in Berlin to discuss present issues of Public Policy and Governance, as well as actions and the role of the EU as a global actor into them. The conference was hosted at the Hertie School of Governance, which is a professional teaching and research centre for Public Policy. The AGM is the most wanted event among OCEANERS, where members meet, discuss, learn, cooperate and interface contemporary issues of society. Actual and new activities of OCEANS Network are discussed, too.

'Get to know Europe' workshop in South Korea

On May 3rd-5th, 2013 a 'Get to know Europe' workshop was held in Daegu, South Korea at Kyungpook National University.


For three days, 40 participants from Europe and South Korea enjoyed various activities to get to know Europe and learn more about the different cultures. Ms Lorne Hwang who is Assistant Vice President at Office of International Affairs at Kyungpook National University, engaged the participants in different cultural activities. The activities provided the participants with cultural insights that prepared them to understand each other better.

OCEANS for beginners

On Febuary 15th-17th, 2013 OCEANS for beginners was held in Munich, Germany.


25 participants had the chance to get to know OCEANS Network and learn what it is really all about. The event organisers explained the Newbies the role of the European Commission, encouraged to become active and organise own events, explain the role of the coordinating board, etc. Lastly, the event was giving the participants an opportunity to get to know each other, network and simply have fun.

3rd Annual General Meeting of OCEANS 

On July 13-14th, 2012 the 3rd Annual General Meeting took place in Warsaw, Poland at Warsaw University of Technology.


The two-day event gathered around 80 participants: representatives of the European Commission, the UNDP, active members, as well as university staff all meet to discuss the activities of OCEANS. The main topic this year has been SOCIAL MEDIA and the event featured workshop sessions on different topics and cultural programme to strengthen the networking ties among members and introduce them to the host city and the culture of the host country. Previous Annual General Meetings have been hosted by universities in Brussels and New York City.

"Presentation internationally" Workshop

We will be glad to welcome OCEANS members living in the Baltic region at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University for the “Presentation internationally” workshop on May 5th.

Come together, right now ... in Limerick!

OCEANS Network invites you to join the first UK & Ireland Meeting that will take place in Limerick, Ireland on 21 - 22 April 2012.

OCEANERS in Ireland and the UK, if you'd like to get involved and discuss the strategic development of the OCEANS Network and do some team building activities with new members this is the right event for you!
You will also meet a lot of new people and have fun while exploring the beautiful city of Limerick!

2nd Annual General Meeting: New York

The second Annual General Meeting of OCEANS Network took place at Parsons The New School For Design in New York, USA on September 16-17. The two-day event gathered more than 80 international students and young graduates of a variety of the mobility projects the EU has set up with the industrialised countries Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the USA. The young people met to discuss further strategic development of the Network, to take part in different workshops and to explore New York as part of the networking activities among the worldwide members of the Network.

1st International photo competition

The Coordinating Board together with AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V.  organised the first international photo compeition of OCEANS Network.It was all about intercultural experience! OCEANS members were invited to send us their photo that depicts cultural identity in a multicultural society, cultural encounters, differences or similarities that they experienced during and after your time abroad. The photo should illustrate one of these themes in a creative way. Matteo Fiorio and Wonuk Park have won a scholarship (tuition and accommodation) for the Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience. "Get to know Europe workshop" in Sydney

On the morning of 8th April 2011, 60 young Australians from across the country gathered inside the University of Sydney’s New Law School Building, and waited for one special arrival. The day’s event, the OCEANS “Get to know Europe Workshop” involved OCEANS working together with the Australian Government and the European Commission in providing a service for Australian students interested or engaged in educational exchange to Europe. Kick-started by words of wisdom from the Australian Ambassador to the European Union, H.E. Dr. Brendan Nelson, the event involved an intercultural training equipping the students with useful tools for understanding and managing differences between cultures when abroad. Read more...

Networking in South Korea

A special lunch reception to introduce the OCEANS Network was held end of March 2011 in South Korea at the Novotel in downtown Daegu.

Why Daegu? – well three universities in this city have two active EU/Korea exchange programmes SAIPEKS – Study and Internship Program for EU and Korean Students and EUKLA – EU/Korea Leadership Alliance that allow EU and Korean students to combine an internship with their semester abroad, which means there are lots of potential OCEANS members… Indeed, the 1st OCEANS Network event attracted over 50 participants and an exciting combination of students and staff from Poland, Slovenia, UK, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, and of course KoreaRead more...

1st International video competition

In December 2010 we invited our members to create a film to show what Christmas is like in their country or experience. This could be at their home, their hometown or wherever there might have been. The film could focus on the food, parties, culture or anything else! The movie makers Sophie Ryckaert, Elena, Tania, Olga and Silvia, Natalia Cesarz and Piotr, Maria-Luise Berrell, Alin Horj won travel and accommodation scholarships to an OCEANS event.


1st Annual General Meeting, Brussels

“Wait a second, what is this AGM you're all talking about here? Any chance it coincidentally was the Awesome General Meeting we had the last week?!” - Gabriele Armao

The purpose of the 1st AGM was to bring OCEANS members together in order to introduce the organisation and its support teams, to learn about the value of international communication, and to network. As it was the first official meeting of the OCEANS Network, the Coordinating Board decided that it should be held in the “Capital of Europe”, Brussels.
