Donaldson Ofoha

Candidate for the position as “Vice-President” 

 

Tell us about yourself and what you are currently dedicating your time towards?  

I am Donaldson Chima Ofoha, a Nigerian by birth and living in Nigeria. I have a BSc. in Agricultural Economics and Extension and an MSc. degree in Agricultural Economics from Enugu State University of Science and Technology and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka respectively. I have been through several training in Intellectual Property Assets. Currently, I am head, patent unit of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Also I am currently writing my PhD research thesis in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. 

 

Do you have any previous experience with OCEANS and if so in what capacity?  

I am a member.

 

What motivates you to apply for this position?  

The position of OCEANS vice- president will be a great opportunity to learn new skills, acquire some valuable working experience and make a difference by providing support that will advance OCEANS as an international organization. Of course, also its a platform to make new friends and build up my personal network with people from around the world. Furthermore, the experience will provide me the exposure to global best practices in leadership from OCEANS network leaders and partners in Brussels, Germany expanding my profile and opportunity to contribute to issues of concern in Africa and Nigeria in particular. 

 

What skills and qualities can you bring to this position?  

My training as an Agricultural Economics equips me as a policy maker. As vice president of OCEANS network I will drive and support positive and impactful policies that will promote the visibility of OCEANS network particularly in Africa. I have a team spirit; this will be useful in my support to the president in the discharge of assignments. My work experience will be of great input in the discharge of my service. I will bring to this position resilience in the discharge of assignments and because the world has become a global village I hope to promote familyhood of OCEANS network members through effective communication and contact. 

 

What are your plans and ideas for the future of OCEANS?  

I have participated in the Erasmus mobility program; I’ve learned so much on the internalization approaches. While in office as OCEANS vice president I hope to assist the president towards improving the internalization of OCEANS network activities. Within the period of my vice presidency I hope to introduce innovations that will position the OCEANS network for better results, promote the wellbeing of the organization and drive increased membership participation and commitment. I will seek strategies that will drive the implementation of regional specific need programs to the board as a tool for human capital development of members even in the face of the Covid 19 challenges.
